 Background and History

Prior to my career in functional health, I spent nearly two decades in the automotive industry as a sole-proprietor entrepreneur. In addition to my business and academic focus, I have coached and trained athletes, as I was an elite athlete setting several school records that stood for over 20 years. My competitive athletic career ended due to several accidents and injuries, on, and away from the playing field. However I am still able to be physical on a more elementary level which allows me to be an active trainer.

Being a lifelong learner, today I keep current on the latest research, trends and medical breakthroughs, particularly in the areas of healing, wellness, mind, body, spirit. I am inspired by the works of Mark Hyman, Dr. Datis Kharrazian, Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Nicholas James Gonzalez, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Mike Burgener (Olympic weightlifting coach).

A Life Worthy of the Calling

My passion for functional medicine and the holistic approach evolved from my own life experiences with debilitating chronic pain and illness which began when I was 30, after 3 years of running my own business. I am passionate about our health on this planet and find the allopathic method is failing us all, no longer should we be sent home with prescription medications without addressing the root cause. Don’t misunderstand me, there can be a place for allopathic medicine, however we need to treat the body as a whole, rather than chasing symptoms, only then can allopathic medicine be used in conjunction with holistic medicine.

In my journey to regain my health, I spent over 15 years consulting with numerous practitioners, implementing numerous modalities, therapies, lifestyle and dietary changes, but yet still struggled with chronic fatigue, pain, brain fog and illness on a continual basis.

When I finally started applying the techniques and principles of functional medicine and the mind-body connection, that’s when I began to resolve and uncover my health issues from the deep root causes and allow my body to implement the healing process. Once I understood the connections between the brain, gut, exercise, stress management and a positive mental spiritual attitude, I began to see changes. I achieved better health through this process and you can too! It’s still an ongoing process; however I am far better off today than ever.

Through my own healing process I touched into a core value of wanting to share this work with others by helping to support them through their own personal health journeys. So I wanted to broaden knowledge even further about health and began researching and acquiring certifications towards Holistic Functional Medicine while working a full time job in corporate America and planned to leave soon. But as fate would have it I was laid off from my corporate job, so I took this as a sign that it was time for me to “go all in” and start the career I was destine for.

— The Journey to Recovery and Transformation

The key to recovery is having a thorough understanding of how Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ME, Fibromyalgia, Autoimmunity or any other dis-ease symptoms work. My path will undoubtedly be different than yours, as the key to recovery is customizing a plan that meets the individual where they are. Each individual will have their own demons to face and underlying factors to resolve. Never lose hope, there is a way out.

Through specific and targeted functional lab workups, I discovered I had late stage HPA-axis dysfunction and significant hormone imbalances.  I also uncovered that I had impaired digestion and absorption, leaky gut, hidden food sensitivities (which cause low grade inflammation), oxidative stress, liver congestion, gastrointestinal infections, and much more.

By implementing natural science-based protocols, which I was taught within the functional medicine paradigm, I was able to begin restoring normal function and bring my body back into homeostasis (state of balance).

While correcting physiological imbalances, I also engaged in regular and consistent practice of mind-body applications in order to address the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of healing.  I continue to use these practices for personal and professional growth as well as to mitigate the stressors of daily life. My vast personal experiences and formal training has helped me to better understand what builds health and wellbeing and what blocks it.

I’ve had many setbacks and the journey still continues, taking one day at a time “on my terms”. I am no longer looking for the quick fix or those silver bullet protocols, as they just don’t exist. The process is done within focusing on the holistic approach of Body, Mind and Spirit.
